HL Deb 16 November 1954 vol 189 c1490

[The references are to Bill 152 as first printed for the House of Commons.]

Clause 1, page 2, line, 11, leave out subsections (5) and (6).

LORD MANCROFT

My Lords, the three Amendments to this Bill made in another place, which it now falls to your Lordships to consider, are little more than drafting Amendments. Accordingly, I hope that your Lordships will see no difficulty in agreeing to them. They are closely interlinked, and perhaps I may be allowed, for the convenience of your Lordships, to explain in a sentence what they seek to do. As I say, they are really nothing more than drafting Amendments, and they are designed to place greater emphasis on the fact that the duties of the Armed Forces include Civil Defence. These, Amendments were inserted in another place at the request of the Opposition, and I hope your Lordships will agree that they are an improvement to the Bill. I beg to move that the House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Mancroft.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
