HL Deb 26 July 1954 vol 189 cc1-2

2.37 p.m.

LORD BARNBY

My Lords, I beg to ask the first Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether they can now announce some relaxation in the present retention of funds of migrants from the United Kingdom to Canada.]

THE PAYMASTER GENERAL (THE EARL OF SELKIRK)

My Lords, Her Majesty's Government have this question under review, but I am afraid that I am not in a position to indicate whether they will find it possible to make any relaxation. I can, however, assure the noble Lord that as soon as our balance of payments position permits my right honourable friend will lose no time in relaxing these restrictions.
