HL Deb 02 February 1954 vol 185 c589
EARL HOWE

My Lords, I beg to ask the first Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether the line of the Markyate by-pass of the Road A5 between St. Albans and Dunstable has yet been determined, and what progress has been made in the purchase of the land required for the building of the new road.]

THE EARL OF BIRKENHEAD

My Lords, the line of the Markyate By-pass has been determined by an Order made under the Trunk Roads Act, 1936. No progress can be made in the purchase of the land until detailed plans have been prepared; this work is in hand.
