HL Deb 20 October 1953 vol 183 c1244

2.45 p.m.

EARL HOWE

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether it is proposed to carry out a 24-hour census of traffic on the more important trunk routes.]

THE EARL OF BIRKENHEAD

My Lords, my right honourable friend the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation is considering proposals for a comprehensive census on trunk and classified roads, but has not yet reached a definite decision. I might add that such a census would not necessarily be for twenty-four hours; regard would be had to the nature of the traffic at the census points.
