HL Deb 30 July 1953 vol 183 c1171

Clause 1, page 1, line 11, leave out ("accuracy")

LORD MANCROFT

My Lords, this Amendment was accepted in another place on the general ground that the word "accuracy," which this Amendment seeks to leave out, had rather a limited value unless it was qualified. For example, the accuracy of a thermometer must be far greater in a laboratory than in the oven of a domestic cooker, or so I am informed. The requirements of both are already safeguarded in the Bill by the expressions "fitness for purpose" and "performance or behaviour." I think that the Bill would be improved by the omission of this word, which may give some ground for doubt or hesitancy. Therefore, I recommend that your Lordships should accept this Amendment. I beg to move that this House do agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House do agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Mancroft.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
