HL Deb 27 July 1953 vol 183 c881

Clause 3, page 3, line 3, at end insert ("not exceeding five years").

THE EARL OF HOME

My Lords, it was thought reasonable that the Crown Assessors who are to sit on the University Court should not have their term extended beyond the initial five years by Order in Council for more than a further five years. The Government's intention has always been that the Crown Commissioners should sit on the Court only during the period of reorganisation of the University, and that clearly, I think, ought not to exceed ten years. That period should give ample time; indeed I hope that the reorganisation will be completed very much sooner. I beg to move that the House do agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That the House do agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Earl of Home.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
