HL Deb 07 July 1953 vol 183 cc267-8
LORD BARNBY

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether, with a view to facilitating United Kingdom participation in Canadian industrial development and making better use of the present large United Kingdom holdings in Canada (reported to exceed 2 billion dollars), they intend to put forward proposals to fund the remaining unpaid balance of the 1946 Loan by Canada.]

THE EARL OF SELKIRK

My Lords, I can assure the noble Lord that Her Majesty's Government are fully aware of the importance of this subject. They are keeping in touch with the Canadian Government, but I am not yet in a position to say anything about the outcome.
