HL Deb 09 December 1953 vol 184 c1116

2.51 p.m.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR COMMONWEALTH RELATIONS (VISCOUNT SWINTON)

My Lords, I beg to move the Motion standing on the Order Paper in the name of my noble friend the Leader of the House. It will give effect to the arrangements which we made last night, that we should take Lord Jeffreys' Motion first on the day in question, and that that should then be followed by the Government Business which is set down for the day.

Moved, That Standing Order No. XXI be considered in order to its being dispensed with on Tuesday next for the purpose of giving precedence to the Motion standing for that day in the name of the Lord Jeffreys over the Orders of the Day.—(Viscount Swinton.)

LORD JEFFREYS

My Lords, may I express my thanks to my noble friend for this Motion? Perhaps I may be allowed also to express the thanks of those who support me in this matter.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.
