My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government whether the organisation known as the Animal Health Trust has premises registered and workers licensed for vivisection.]

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (LORD LLOYD)

My Lords, four research stations belonging to the Animal Health Trust are registered under the Cruelty to Animals Act, 1876. Nineteen scientific officers of the Trust are licensed for work under the Act at these stations, In addition, some research Fellows working at universities under the auspices of the Trust also hold licences under the Act.
