HL Deb 08 December 1953 vol 184 c1086

6.40 p.m.

VISCOUNT SWINTON

My Lords, may I once again intervene on Business? I was informed that December 16 was a convenient date to take the Food and Drugs Bill. I now find—I apologise to the House—that the Chancellor of the, Duchy has to be in Manchester on that day, but it would be possible to take the Bill on the 15th. It would require to be put down. There is on that day, after a couple of Starred Questions, a Motion by the noble Lord, Lord Jeffreys, which I do not think should take very long but which should keep its place. We should then put the Food and Drugs Bill Committee Stage down for that day. Then there is the Motion by the noble Lord, Lord Lawson, which would follow. It is second Order on that day, "To draw attention to the Seventh Report of the International Labour Organisation," but there should be plenty of time. We meet at half-past two. I now understand that the noble Lord, Lord Lawson, has put off his Motion.

LORD BURDEN

Yes.

VISCOUNT SWINTON

That is very convenient. We will put down the Committee stage of the Food and Drugs Bill after the Motion standing in the name of the noble Lord, Lord Jeffreys. That will interfere much less will the Business. I ask leave to make that correction. I think that will be still more for the convenience of the House.
