HL Deb 15 April 1953 vol 181 c731

2.37 p.m.

THE LORD PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

My Lords, I think that before we begin the Business of the day it might be convenient if I said a word about our arrangements. A large number of noble Lords wish to take part in the debate on Defence to-day and to-morrow, and what I would suggest, if it is convenient to noble Lords, is that we should sit until a quarter past seven this evening, by which time I hope that we may have completed a large number of speeches, and then begin to-morrow at 2.30 p.m. and complete the debate. I think it will probably be for the convenience of the House that we should not sit after dinner, if that can be avoided.

EARL JOWITT

My Lords, I am much obliged to the noble Marquess; that seems a very satisfactory arrangement.
