My Lords, I beg to ask Her Majesty's Government the following Question, of which I have given private notice—namely, whether Her Majesty's Government have any statement to make about the Television Advisory Committee.

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (EARL DE LA WARR)

My Lords, I have reconstituted the Television Advisory Committee with the following terms of reference: To advise the Postmaster General on the development of television and sound broadcasting at frequencies above 30 megacycles per second and related matters, including competitive television services and television for public showing in cinemas and elsewhere. I am glad to say that Admiral Sir Charles Daniel, K.C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., has agreed to act as Chairman. There will be nine members, as follows: three members with wide experience in industry—namely, Sir Edward Herbert, Kt., O.B.E., the Honourable Charles McLaren and E.M. Fraser, Esq., C.B.E.; and G. Darnley Smith, Esq., and C. O. Stanley, Esq., C.B.E., of the Radio Industry Council. The remaining four members will be the Director General of the B.B.C., and a senior official from the Treasury, the Ministry of Supply and the Post Office.
