HL Deb 28 October 1952 vol 178 cc1032-3

LORD STRABOLGI

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government which Minister in the House of Lords is to be responsible for answering questions and representations concerning the arrangements for Her Majesty's Coronation for which Her Majesty's Government have responsibility.]

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR COMMONWEALTH RELATIONS (THE MARQUESS OF SALISBURY)

My Lords, it is not proposed that any one Minister shall be responsible in your Lordships' House for answering questions on matters concerned with those arrangements for the Coronation which lie outside the field of the Royal Prerogative. Many Departments will inevitably be concerned with particular aspects of these arrangements, and it has been thought best, and most convenient for your Lordships, that noble Lords on the Front Bench who are now responsible for replying to questions on behalf of particular Ministries should be responsible for replying to questions on Coronation arrangements affecting their particular Ministries. Of course, on any general questions to which the Prime Minister would reply in another place, I myself, as Leader of your Lordships' House, will be responsible for the answer here.
