HL Deb 12 November 1952 vol 179 c252

2.53 p.m.

EARL HOWE

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many cases of highway robbery have been dealt with in the courts since October 22, 1952.]

THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD SIMONDS)

My Lords, I regret that this information is not available. It would be necessary to ask the courts to examine their records and make a special return in order to provide statistics relating to the period to which the Question relates—that is, from October 22 until to-day. I may add that separate criminal statistics are not compiled for offences which may be described as "highway robbery" as distinct from other forms of robbery.
