Order of the Day read for the consideration of the Second Report from the Select Committee.

The Committee reported as follows:

1.—LIBRARY.

The Committee approved the Report of the Sub-Committee on the Library.

The Committee authorised an extension of service to Mr. Charles Travis Clay, C.B., the Librarian, for one year from the 30th July, 1952.

The Committee sanctioned a revised scale of salary for the Assistant Librarian.

2.—HISTORICAL RECORDS.

The Clerk of the Parliaments informed the Committee of further progress by the Ministry of Works in the air conditioning of the manuscript repository in the Victoria Tower and the provision of improve d means of access to the rooms.

The Committee approved a revised scale of salary for the Clerk in charge of the Historical records, and the application of the senior scale of salary to the post of Office Assistant.

3.—CUSTODIANS.

The Committee were informed of the result of the negotiations with the Treasury and approved revised rates of pay for the Custodian staff.

4.—REVISED SCALES OF PAY.

The Committee sanctioned the application of Treasury Establishment Circulars:—

83/51 (Pay of Women Cleaners)

85/51 (Pay of Messengers and Paperkeepers)

86/51 (Pay of Senior Messengers, Senior Paperkeepers and Chief Paperkeepers) to analogous grades of the staff of the House of Lords.

5.—PAY ADDITIONS.

The Committee sanctioned the application of Treasury Establishment Circulars No. 5/52 dated 23rd January, 1952, and No. 9/52 dated 6th February, 1952, to the Staff of the House of Lords to whom it may be applied.

The Committee authorised the consequential increase in the Estimates for the House of Lords for 1952–53.

6.—SUPERANNUATION.

The Committee sanctioned the application of Treasury Establishment Circulars:—

7/52 The Injury Warrant, 1952

10/52 The Superannuation (Reserve and Auxiliary Forces) Rules, 1952

13/52 Pensionable Value of Uniform to any staff of the House of Lords to whom it may be applied.

7.—GRATUITY TO LEGAL PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE OF CUSTODIAN.

The Committee approved the payment of a gratuity under the Superannuation Acts to the legal personal representative of Custodian J. J. Farrell, who died on 20th December, 1951.
