HL Deb 24 July 1952 vol 178 cc295-6
LORD MANCROFT

asked Her Majesty's Government if they can give the name, composition and conditions of service of the new Regiment which it is proposed to raise in Malaya and the date upon which the Regiment will start to form.

THE EARL OF MUNSTER

The new Regiment is to be recruited from Federal citizens of all races, and British subjects, and is to be called the Federation Regiment. The Bill providing for the creation of the Regiment was passed during the July session of the Legislative Council and recruitment is to begin at once. Terms of service for both officers and other ranks will be the same as for members of the Malay Regiment, except that. with the agreement of the Service authorities and the Singapore Government, it has been decided to introduce with immediate effect special terms of service for potential officers during training, with the object of securing the best available men.

House adjourned at twenty minutes past five o'clock.
