§ 2.36 p.m.
§ LORD VANSITTARTMy Lords, I beg to ask the first Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.
§ [The Question was as follows:
§ To ask Her Majesty's Government whether any American oil operators are involved in deals to procure oil claimed by the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company, and to inquire what action the Government contemplate to convey to the United States the strong resentment which would be caused in this country by such proceedings.]
THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (THE MARQUESS OF READING)My Lords, in spite of the reports which have been in circulation, no American oil operators have, so far as I am aware, been involved to any but a negligible extent in deals of this kind. I can assure the noble Lord that the United States Government are fully aware of our views on attempts to deal in this oil, and I have every reason to believe that they share them.
§ LORD VANSITTARTMy Lords, I am very glad to hear that, and I am grateful for a reply that gives complete satisfaction.
