HL Deb 27 February 1952 vol 175 cc297-8

3.5 p.m.

LORD AMMON

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what was the total amount realised by the tax on the Greyhound Racing Totalisator for the calendar year 1951.]

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE DUCHY OF LANCASTER (VISCOUNT SWINTON)

My Lords, the amount of pool betting duty collected in the calendar year 1951 in respect of the greyhound racing totalisators was £6,665,348.

LORD MORRISON

My Lords, could the noble Viscount say whether there has been an increase or a decrease on the previous year?

VISCOUNT SWINTON

My Lords, in 1948 the receipts of duty were £9,473,000, and they have gone down steadily until they have now reached, as I have indicated, the figure of £6,665,348.
