HL Deb 17 December 1952 vol 179 c1055

3.20 p.m.

LORD MANCROFT

My Lords, this Order amends the Lace Industry (Scientific Research Levy) (Amendment) Order, 1952, which imposes levies on the lace industry to provide moneys for scientific research. It is an agreed Order. I understand that it is quite acceptable to all sides of the industry, and I can confidently recommend it to your Lordships. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Lace Industry (Scientific Research Levy) (Amendment) Order, 1952, reported from the Special Orders Committee on Wednesday last, be approved.—(Lord Mancroft.)

LORD LUCAS OF CHILWORTH

My Lords, would the noble Lord explain that this Order really only alters the incidence of the collection of the levy, and does not increase the amount? On his giving that assurance, we shall be quite willing to allow it to go through.

LORD MANCROFT

My Lords, I was going to explain that on the next Order. The two Orders are linked and are consequential. What the noble Lord says is perfectly true.

On Question, Motion agreed to.
