§ 2.38 p.m.
§ VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGHMy Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.
§ [The Question was as follows:
§ To ask Her Majesty's Government what steps will be taken to secure that the views of the parishioners of Christ Church, Barton Hill, about the future of their parish can be considered before the scheme now lying upon the Table of the House for the union of St. Gabriel and St. Lawrence, Bristol, comes into effect.]
§ THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD SIMONDS)My Lords, the scheme for effecting the union of the benefices of St. Gabriel, Bristol, and St. Lawrence, Bristol, will not be submitted formally to Her Majesty in Council until any objections made by the parishioners of Christ Church, Barton Hill, to the scheme now being prepared for the union of that benefice with St. Luke, Barton Hill, have been considered.
§ VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGHMy Lords, I am very much obliged to the noble and learned Lord for his reply. I take it that it means that, as the two schemes really go together in the locality and the first one is now lying on the Table of your Lordships' House, the procedure proposed will not prevent a debate taking place, if necessary, with regard to the scheme as affected by the 298 St. Lawrence-St. Gabriel scheme, before the St. Lawrence scheme is put into operation.
§ THE LORD CHANCELLORMy Lords, I feel sure that the answer to that is in the affirmative.
