HL Deb 30 May 1951 vol 171 cc933-4
LORD SHEPHERD

My Lords, as the Message from the Commons referred to on the Order Paper has not been received, I should like, with your Lordships' per-mission, to move 'the Motion standing in the name of the noble Viscount the Leader of the House in the following terms: That in the event of a Message being received from the Commons that they have passed the British North America Bill, Standing Orders Nos. XXI and XXXIX be considered in order to their being dispensed with to-morrow for the purpose of giving the Bill precedence over the other Notices and Orders of the Day and of passing the Bill through its remaining stages. It is expected that the Bill will be received from the Commons later this afternoon, and that it will be read the first time at to-day's Sitting, and the purpose of this Motion is to enable the Second Reading and subsequent stages to be taken to-morrow as the first Business. A Commission is arranged for six o'clock to-morrow for the purpose of giving the Royal Assent to this Bill. Will noble Lords please note that the term "America" should be used in place of the term "American" as printed in the Motion standing on the Paper?

Moved, That in the event of a Message being received from the Commons that they have passed the British North America Bill, Standing Orders Nos. XXI and XXXIX be considered in order to their being dispensed with to-morrow for the purpose of giving the Bill precedence over the other Notices and Orders of the Day and of passing the Bill through all its stages.—(Lord Shepherd.)

VISCOUNT SWINTON

My Lords, we shall be glad to give those facilities.

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly.
