HL Deb 01 February 1951 vol 170 c200
LORD STRABOLGI

asked whether there is any new information regarding travel to Germany

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (LORD HENDERSON)

AS announced on January 10, the Allied High Commission Permit Office at Princes Gardens was closed on January 13. The German Consulate-General opened a Passport and Visa Section at 1, Great Cumberland Place, Marble Arch, on Monday, January 15, and now issues German passports and visas for Germany. The Foreign Office (German Section) will maintain a Permit Section to issue entry permits to officials of the Allied High Commission and their families, and to the families of members of the Occupying Forces

Permits issued by the Allied High Commission Permit Office which have not yet expired will be recognised as valid until their date of expiry. These new arrangements mark a further stage in the transfer of responsibility to the German Federal Government
