§ 2.37 p.m.
§ VISCOUNT SWINTONMy Lords, I beg to ask His Majesty's Government the following Question of which I have given private notice—namely, whether His Majesty's Government can now make any statement on the subject of H.M. Submarine "Affray."
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE DUCHY OF LANCASTER (VISCOUNT ALEXANDER OF HILLSBOROUGH)My Lords, I had hoped to be able to make a statement at once, but I am sure the noble Viscount will agree that it would be advisable, when the statement is made, to have the most accurate and up-to-date information possible. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty arrived back from Portsmouth only a few minutes ago, and a statement is now being drawn up. With your Lordships' permission, I will interrupt Business later in order to make a statement.
§ VISCOUNT SWINTONMy Lords, I am obliged to the noble Viscount. I am sure the House will welcome the course he has proposed.
