§ Moved, That Standing Orders Nos. XXI and XXXIX be considered in order to their being suspended until the House adjourn for the Summer Recess, and that, until that date, Government Business have, except with the consent of the Government, precedence over other Notices and Orders of the Day.—(Viscount Addison.)
THE EARL OF PERTHMy Lords, I do not wish to oppose the proposed Motion, but I should be grateful if the noble Viscount the Leader of the House could give an assurance that matters will be so arranged that there will not be any Government Business on the Order Paper on Wednesday, July 27, to take precedence over the Motion of my noble friend Lord Reading on the Order Paper for that day on a subject which will be of great interest to the House as a whole.
§ VISCOUNT ADDISONMy Lords, I am afraid I cannot give an absolute pledge, as asked by the noble Earl, because it has been arranged that on that day, in the event of there being further Commons Amendments to the Iron and Steel Bill, these will be taken. I will do 1208 my best, however, and I give the noble Earl the assurance that somewhere we will do our best to find time to discuss the Motion.
