HL Deb 18 January 1949 vol 160 cc4-5

2.42 p.m.

EARL HOWE

My Lords, I beg to ask the second Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

The Question was as follows:

[To ask His Majesty's Government whether their attention has been drawn to the decision of the House of Lords upon the regulations governing the use of controlled crossings, and the views expressed by their Lordships; and, in view of the somewhat dangerous situation which is likely to arise as a result of this judgment, whether His Majesty's Government contemplate either fresh legislation, or revision of the regulations in the interests of public safety.]

THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR COLONIAL AFFAIRS (THE EARL OF LISTOWEL)

My Lords, His Majesty's Government have noted the recent judgment and the views to which the noble Earl refers in his Question. The Minister of Transport had already been impressed with the desirability of improving the Regulations, if at all practicable, and had referred the matter to his Committee on Road Safety for advice. He hopes to receive a report from them at an early date.
