HL Deb 15 December 1949 vol 165 c1617

4.12 p.m.

LORD LUCAS OF CHILWORTH

My Lords, I beg to move that the Special Order, as reported from the Special Orders Committee on Wednesday the 7th instant, be approved. The Sale of Food Act requires certain articles of pre-packed food, set out in the First Schedule, to be packed by certain weights in packages clearly defining the net weight of their contents. This order places approximately twelve different kinds of pre-packed food in this Schedule for the first time. We have been pressed to do this by local authorities who have to administer this Act, and by retail food trade associations. We have consulted all the appropriate organisations, and they unanimously agree. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Special Order, as reported from the Special Orders Committee on Wednesday the 7th instant, be approved.—(Lord Lucas of Chilworth.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
