HL Deb 15 December 1949 vol 165 cc1615-6

4.8 p.m.

THE JOINT PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERIES (THE EARL OF HUNTINGDON)

My Lords, as a result of experience in the working of this scheme, and on the advice of Parliament, my right honourable friend the Minister of Agriculture has decided to alter the rates of the subsidy which, instead of being £4 for a steer calf and £3 for a heifer calf, will now be altered to £5 for a steer calf and £2 for a heifer calf. The object of this is to lay more stress on beef production, and in view of the considerable need for increasing our meat supplies, I hope your Lordships will agree with this Order. I beg to move.

Moved, That the Special Order, as reported from the Special Orders Committee on Tuesday, November 29 last, be approved.—(The Earl of Huntingdon.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
