HL Deb 14 December 1949 vol 165 c1520
LORD LYLE OF WESTBOURNE

My Lords, I beg to ask the Question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The Question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether in view of the desirability of curtailing expenditure at the present time, any directions are to be issued to the Railway Executive with regard to their programme for repainting trains in new colours.]

THE PAYMASTER-GENERAL (LORD MACDONALD OF GWAENYSGOR)

My Lords, this is a matter for the British Transport Commission. I have referred it to them and they will no doubt get in touch with the noble Lord.

LORD LYLE OF WESTBOURNE

May I ask the noble Lord whether it is not a mistake to paint too many trains red, in case that colour is not favoured by a future Government?
