§ Order of the Day read for the consideration of the First Report from the Select Committee.
§ The Committee reported as follows:
§ 1.—SUB-COMMITTEES.
§ The Library Sub-Committee was re-appointed as follows: The Earl of Ilchester, the Earl of Drogheda, the Viscount Mersey, the Lord Stanmore, the Lord Macmillan, the Lord Soulbury, the Lord Simonds, the Lord Lindsay of Birker, with the Clerk of the Parliaments.
§ The Sub-Committee on the Refreshment Department was re-appointed as follows: The Earl of Lucan, the Earl Fortescue, the Viscount Mersey, the Lord Stanmore, the Lord Jessel, the Lord Henderson, with the Lord Great Chamberlain and the Clerk of the Parliaments.
§ 2.—SUPERANNUATION (WAR SERVICE) REGULATIONS, 1948.
§ The Committee sanctioned the application of Treasury Circular No. 13/48, providing for the period of war service to be treated as service in an unestablished capacity in the Civil Service for the purposes of the Superannuation Acts, to any officer or official of the House of Lords to whom it may apply.
659§ 3.—REVISION OF SALARY SCALES.
§ The Committee authorised the application of Treasury Circular No. 15/48, with reference to the pay of Principals and Assistant Principals, and Establishment Officers' Circular No. 38/48, granting special increments, to the staff of the House of Lords to whom they may be applied.
§ 4.—RETIREMENT OF CUSTODIAN.
§ The Committee sanctioned the payment of a pension and an additional allowance under the Superannuation Act, 1935, to Custodian Jasper Lawman, on his retirement from 19th November, 1948.
§ 5.—ESTIMATE.
§ The Estimate for the House of Lords for 1949–50 was laid before the Committee by the Clerk of the Parliaments and approved.
§ 6.—PROPOSED GIFT TO CAEN UNIVERSITY.
§ The Committee referred to the Library Sub-Committee the question of presenting certain printed records of the House of Lords to the University of Caen, with authority to take such action as they may decide.
§ 7.—CUSTODIANS.
§ The Committee authorised the appointment of two additional Custodians, and sanctioned the granting of annual increments in substitution for the present quinquennial increments.
