§ 2.36 p.m.
§ EARL HOWEMy Lords, I beg to ask His Majesty's Government the question standing in my name on the Order Paper.
§ [The question was as follows:
§ To ask His Majesty's Government whether in the case of new towns, it is the policy of the Government to make adequate provision for garage accommodation for waiting cars on the most modern lines, such as mechanical parking.]
§ THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (LORD HENDERSON)My Lords, the task of securing the development of a new town rests upon the development corporation concerned, who submit their proposals for the approval of my right honourable friend the Minister of Town and Country Planning. The noble Earl may be assured that the need for adequate parking accommodation will be borne in mind, but the means by which this can be secured must depend on the circumstances of the particular case.
