HL Deb 02 November 1948 vol 159 c149

2.35 p.m.

LORD SCHUSTER

My Lords, I beg to ask His Majesty's Government the first question standing in my name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether the Committee presided over by Mr. Justice Lewis has reported, and, if so, when was the Report received by the Secretary of State for War (or the Army Council) and by the Secretary of State for Air (or the Air Council) respectively, and when the Report will be published.]

LORD SHEPHERD

My Lords, I have been requested by my noble friend Lord Pakenham, who is away on rather important business, to reply to this question for him. The Army and Air Force Courts Martial Committee, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Justice Lewis, submitted their Final Report to the Secretaries of State for War and for Air in May, 1948. Inter-departmental consideration of the Report is nearly complete, and it is hoped that the Report, together with the views of His Majesty's Government, will be made public in the course of the next two or three months.

LORD SCHUSTER

I am much obliged to the noble Lord for his reply.
