HL Deb 27 May 1948 vol 155 cc1193-4

7.11 p.m.

Order of the Day for the Second Reading read.

LORD AMMON

My Lords, this is a purely domestic Bill, concerned with the Members of another place. It is merely a benevolent fund, and there is no need for any explanation of it. I therefore beg to move that the Bill be read a second time.

Moved, That the Bill be now read 2ª.—(Lord Ammon.)

LORD LLEWELLIN

My Lords, I take the view that as this is purely a House of Commons matter it would be much better if we passed this Bill straight through, in the form in which we have received it. It concerns a Fund which, although some of us have subscribed to it, does not affect us while we are sitting in this House.

On Question, Bill read 2ª and committed to a Committee of the Whole House.
