HL Deb 10 March 1948 vol 154 c615

THE CHAIRMAN OF COMMITTEES had given Notice to move, That Standing Order 101 be considered in order to its being dispensed with in respect of a Petition of the Association for Moral and Social Hygiene.

VISCOUNT MERSEY

My Lords, this is a Motion to dispense with Standing Order 101 in regard to the Salford Corporation Bill. It has the object of allowing a late Petition to be referred to the Select Committee appointed to consider the Bill. The Petition relates to Clause 58, and following the instruction agreed to by the House yesterday with reference to this clause, I think your Lordships would wish that a Petition concerned with the merits of the clause should be referred to the Select Committee although it has been deposited at a date later than allowed by the Standing Order. Accordingly I beg to move that Standing Order 101 be dispensed with in respect of this Petition.

Moved, That Standing Order 101 be considered in order to its being dispensed with in respect of a Petition of the Association for Moral and Social Hygiene.—(Viscount Mersey.)

On Question, Motion agreed to, and ordered accordingly; leave given to present the said Petition.
