HL Deb 30 June 1948 vol 157 c95

Clause 10, page 8, line 44, at end insert— ("(2) Where under subsection (4) of section one of this Act a local authority take over the care of a child from another local authority, that other authority shall where possible inform the parent of the child that the care of the child has been so taken over.")

Clause 10, page 8, line 45, leave out ("the last foregoing subsection,") and insert ("subsection (1) of this section").

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, the next two Amendments are to Clause 10. The first Amendment puts a duty on a local authority where possible to inform the parent if a child is transferred from their care to the care of the local authority in whose area the child was to be ordinarily resident when taken into care by the first-mentioned authority. The second Amendment is a consequential change. These two Amendments, in that they increase the parental rights, will, I am sure, commend themselves to your Lordships. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House do agree with the Commons in the said Amendments.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
