HL Deb 08 June 1948 vol 156 c441

2.35 p.m.

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (VISCOUNT ADDISON)

My Lords, I beg to move that the House do agree with the Motion standing in my name on the Order Paper. I should explain to your Lordships that some time ago, to meet the general convenience, it was arranged that four minutes should be the interval of a Division call. That has been found to be inconveniently long, whereas the two minutes we had before was supposed to be inconveniently short. I therefore propose, with your Lordships' consent, to split the difference and make it three minutes. I beg to move.

Moved, That the decision of the House of November 19, 1946, whereby, when a Division is called in the House, the interval of time between the order "Clear the Bar" and the question being finally put was extended from two minutes to four minutes, be rescinded and that Standing Order No. XXXII be amended by leaving out the word "four" and inserting the word "three" in lieu thereof.—(Viscount Addison.)

On Question, Motion agreed to: the said Standing Order amended accordingly.
