HL Deb 28 July 1948 vol 157 c1284

2.51 p.m.

Order of the Day read for the consideration of Commons Amendment in lieu of one of the Lords Amendments, and Commons Reasons for disagreeing to certain of the Lords Amendments.

THE LORD CHANCELLOR

My Lords, I should be sorry, at the end of a long Session, and on a very warm day, to send anybody hungry away. I observe that the noble Viscount, Lord Swinton, has a number of Amendments on the Paper, and if he moves them in due course I think we shall find that we are able to arrive at some compromise on each of the difficult points involved. I do not think I need say more at this stage—we will consider these Amendments as and when we come to them—except to say that I very much hope we shall all leave this matter feeling that if none of us has been able to get all he wants at least each of us has got something he wants. In the meantime, I beg to move that the Commons Amendments be now considered.

Moved, That the Commons Amendments be now considered.—(The Lord Chancellor.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
