HL Deb 15 July 1948 vol 157 cc891-2

[The reference is to Bill 61.]

Clause 2, page 2, line 30, at end insert ("but so that the said sections shall be applied with such adaptations and modifications as may be made by regulations made by the Minister").

LORD AMMON

My Lords, this Amendment is merely a drafting Amendment, but perhaps I may say a few words in explanation. It is already recognised in the Act of 1937 that, in applying some of the provisions of the Act to the cases referred to in Sections 105 to 108, some adaptation is needed, and the Act confers on the Minister powers to make adapted regulations for that purpose—see, for instance, Sections 106 (1) (d), 107 (2) and 108 (2). But these, we are advised, do not sufficiently cover the sections which it is proposed now for the first time to apply in these cases. The Amendment was accordingly made so that there will be a similar power of adaptation in the case of the newly applied sections. I beg to move that, the House do agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House do agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Ammon).

On Question, Motion agreed to.
