HL Deb 13 July 1948 vol 157 c757

2.34 p.m.

LORD CLYDESMUIR

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend, Lord Normand, I beg to ask the question standing in his name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether they are in a position to make any statement as to their intentions with regard to the Solicitors Amendment (Scotland) Bill.]

LORD MORRISON

My Lords, the Government are in sympathy with the main principles of this Bill and hope that it may be possible to make progress with its proposals when a suitable legislative opportunity offers.

LORD CLYDESMUIR

May I thank His Majesty's Government for that answer, and ask whether they are aware that there is some urgency in this matter and that my noble and learned friend hopes that as early as possible legislation will be introduced?

LORD MORRISON

I quite agree with what the noble Lord has said but he will appreciate that we are rapidly approaching the end of the Session.
