HL Deb 18 February 1948 vol 153 cc1177-8

3.10 p.m.

LORD TEMPLEMORE

My Lords, I beg to ask His Majesty's Government the question standing in my name on the Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government when the Army List will be published again and made available to the general public]

THE MINISTER OF CIVIL AVIATION (Lord Nathan)

My Lords, as in the case of the Navy and Air Force Lists, the contents of the Army List are being reviewed, and it may be possible before long to make a limited number of copies available for sale to institutions which particularly feel the need for them. I cannot forecast the date when this will be possible, as the Army List is still very large, and the need for economizing in the use of paper remains extremely urgent.

LORD TEMPLEMORE

While thanking the noble Lord for bis comparatively satisfactory reply, I should be grateful if he would explain one tiling which puzzles me. As the Army, we understand, is being reduced to vanishing point, how can the Army List remain very large?
