HL Deb 19 November 1947 vol 152 cc790-1
LORD CARRINGTON

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend, Lord Amherst of Hackney I beg leave to ask the question standing in his name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government how many caterpillar tractors have been imported since January 1, 1947, and in what numbers they have been allocated to (a) agriculture, (b) forestry, (c) open-cast mining, and any other purposes.]

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (VISCOUNT HALL)

My Lords, between January 1 and October 31 this year 465 crawler tractors were imported. Of these, 274 were allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture, 3 to the Forestry Commission, 84 to the Ministry of Fuel and Power for coal production, and the remaining 104 for other purposes. The Departments concerned are responsible for distributing the tractors to individual users.
