HL Deb 18 November 1947 vol 152 cc706-7
VISCOUNT LONG

My Lords, I beg leave to ask His Majesty's Government the question which stands in my name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government, what steps have been taken to acquire and show nationally a Territorial Recruiting Film, which was recently shown throughout the county of Middlesex, and which was so well reviewed by the War Office and the Central Office of Information, and received by the general public.]

LORD AMMON

My Lords, this film has been acquired by the War Office. It is being revised so as to include more Air Force material and will then be issued to all Territorial and Auxiliary Forces Associations.

VISCOUNT LONG

My Lords, I thank the noble Lord for his reply. Has there been, or will there be, a consultation with the film companies, such as the Rank organization and Associated British Cinemas, before this film is put on in the cinemas of the country? Further, may I ask the noble Lord what body is going to be responsible to see that the full effects of this film are shown and made? Can the noble Lord possibly answer that? Will it be the War Office or will it be the Territorial Associations?

LORD AMMON

My Lords, I am afraid that I cannot answer that in any detail now. I know that all the people whom is necessary to consult have been con suited with regard to this. I can assure the noble Viscount that what he has just said will be brought to the attention of the people concerned in the appropriate quarters.
