HL Deb 05 November 1947 vol 152 c465
LORD CARRINGTON

My Lords, on behalf of my noble friend the Earl of Onslow, I beg to ask the question standing in his name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government what instructions have been given to local authorities to ensure that (a) houses built for agricultural workers are built on sites most suitable to local needs; (b) they are in fact occupied by bona-fide agricultural workers.]

LORD HENDERSON

My Lords, local authorities concerned with the provision of houses for the agricultural population have been asked to maintain the closest consultation with county agricultural executive committees. By this means they should be able to secure the best possible advice tooth on the siting of new houses in relation to agricultural needs and on the occupational qualifications of prospective tenants.

EARL DE LA WARR

My Lords, arising out of that reply, would the noble Lord undertake that the communications which have passed between the Minister of Health and local authorities on this question should be placed before Parliament or in some other way published?

LORD HENDERSON

My Lords, I will certainly bring that to the notice of my right honourable friend and see what can be done on the lines suggested by the noble Lord.
