HL Deb 18 March 1947 vol 146 cc400-1
THE EARL OF PERTH

My Lords, I beg to ask His Majesty's Government the question standing in my name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government, whether they have considered the Report which has been submitted to the Control Office for Germany and Austria, from a delegation of British Churchmen after a visit in October last year to the British Zone in Germany; and, if so, what steps, if any, have been taken to give effect to the principal recommendations contained in the Report?]

LORD PAKENHAM

My Lords, His Majesty's Government are much indebted to the delegation of Churchmen for the valuable report which they produced after their visit to the British Zone last October. The recommendations on religious matters were entirely in accordance with the Government's policy in the Zone, and action is being taken to implement them. Progress is, however, largely dependent on the physical facilities available. The valuable recommendations made on other matters have been studied with very much interest.

THE EARL OF PERTH

May I say that the noble Lord's answer, for which I thank him, will give considerable satisfaction to the members of the Mission who went to Germany? It is also a matter of great encouragement that the British authorities are working on the implementation of the recommendations.

LORD PAKENHAM

I am very grateful to the noble Earl for his observations.
