§ THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DOMINION AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT ADDISON) moved, That Standing Order No. XXXII be amended by leaving out the words "and the doors shall be locked after the lapse of four minutes as indicated by the sand glass, or after such shorter time as the Tellers appointed on both sides may agree to." The noble Viscount said: My Lords, I was informed last week that some inconvenience had arisen in our crowded Divisions by reason of the fact that doors were unnecessarily closed. In order to facilitate the opening of a door, I think at the end of the Chamber, it is necessary for me to move this Amendment of the Standing Order, though I understand that the main door which is behind these Benches will require still to remain closed. I believe that this Motion is for the general convenience of your Lordships, and I hope therefore that it will be agreed to.
