HL Deb 17 June 1947 vol 148 cc827-8
LORD TEYNHAM

My Lords, I beg to ask the question standing in my name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government, whether, in view of the statements which have appeared in the Press, it is their intention to abolish or curtail the traditional free daily issue of rum to ratings of the Royal Navy.]

THE FIRST LORD OF TIIE ADMIRALTY (VISCOUNT HALL)

My Lords, it is not the intention of His Majesty's Government to abolish or curtail the free daily issue of rum to ratings of the Royal Navy.

LORD TEYNHAM

I am grateful to the noble Lord for his assurance.
