HL Deb 31 July 1947 vol 151 c857

[The references are to Bill No. 78.]

Clause 84, page 45, line 45, leave out from ("Council") to end of subsection, and insert ("specially called for the purpose, by a circular addressed to the members of the council not less than forty-eight hours nor more than fourteen days before the meeting" )

LORD MORRISON

My Lords, this is a formal Amendment requiring at least 48 hours' notice to be given of a town council meeting at which the dismissal of the town clerk is to be considered. Under the Bill as sent to the Commons such a meeting could be held after twenty-four hours' notice and a number of members of the House of Commons felt that this period was too short. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.— (Lord Morrison.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
