My Lords, I beg to ask his Majesty's Government the question standing in my name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government, whether they have received any proposals from the Burma Constituent Assembly with regard to the protection of minorities in the future Constitution of Burma.]

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA AND BURMA (THE EARL OF LISTOWELL)

My Lords, the position of the frontier areas and the question of protection for minorities in the new Constitution of Burma are at present being discussed in the Constituent Assembly by the interests concerned. I am sending the noble Lord, Lord Rankeillour, extracts from the latest draft of the proposed future Constitution which reached me yesterday.
