HL Deb 11 February 1947 vol 145 c473
VISCOUNT SWINTON

My Lords, I beg leave to ask the Leader of the House a question with regard to business. I understand that there is to be some rearrangement of business, and the House would be grateful for a statement.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR DOMINION AFFAIRS (VISCOUNT ADDISON)

My Lords, I think it would be for the convenience of the House if we re-arranged business so that we should bring to an end at a definite hour the discussion on the Committee stage of the Companies Bill. I suggest that time should be 5.30 p.m., and not later, if that meets your Lordships' convenience. I think it would be generally acceptable if we did not continue the Committee stage on Thursday but resumed it on Tuesday next. I understand that there may be a wish to have a discussion on Thursday on the coal position. I have not had any official confirmation of that from your Lordships, but I think it would be convenient to have it on that day, after the other Orders, which are quite formal.

VISCOUNT SWINTON

That suggestion will be very much for the convenience of the House, and it will not hold up progress on the Companies Bill.
