HL Deb 02 December 1947 vol 152 c1017
LORD SANDHURST

My Lords, I beg to ask the first question standing in my name on the Order Paper.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government what mileage of trunk roads has been re-surfaced since the end of the war.]

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR BURMA (THE EARL OF LISTOWEL)

My Lords, 1,261 miles of trunk road have been re-surfaced since April 1, 1945.

LORD SANDHURST

While thanking the noble Earl for this reply, can he say whether the present economy campaign is going to mean a reduction in the rate of re-laying other roads proposed for this year?

THE EARL OF LISTOWEL

That, of course, is a new question, and I shall be very glad to answer it if the noble Lord would be good enough to put it down on the Paper.
