HL Deb 12 August 1947 vol 151 c1271
LORD BARNBY

I beg to ask the question standing in my name.

[The question was as follows:

To ask His Majesty's Government whether they will state what proportion of current raw material consumption in the (a) cotton, (b) wool textile industries of the United Kingdom is believed to be respectively of dollar or sterling origin.]

LORD CHORLEY

My Lords, in the cotton textile industry about 22 per cent. of the raw materials used is of United States origin, and about 26 per cent. of Empire origin. In the wool textile industry, about 95 per cent. is of United Kingdom and Empire origin, and none of United States origin.
